Golden Meadow Apartments in Dillsburg evacuated

The Golden Meadows Apartments, an assisted living facility on Beaver Street in Dillsburg, York County, was evacuated due to a small fire and smoke just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Officials say  the fire was in a trash can and caused minor damage to one of the apartments.

According to officials, Close to 100 residents were forced out of their homes for nearly an hour while fire crews put out the fire and ventilated smoke from the building.

Fire departments from York, Cumberland, Adams, Upper Allen, Monroe and Carlisle were dispatched to the scene.

Officials say the two-story building has between 40 and 50 apartment units. No injuries are reported and Deputy Chief McCoy says the cause of the fire was careless smoking
