Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett partnered with a Republican powerhouse on Sunday. The governor held a rally in Ivyland, a borough in Bucks County — with the Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Governor Corbett started his campaign on Sunday morning by visiting churches in Lancaster County and then headed to the Philadelphia area where he teamed up with the leader of New Jersey.
“No person deserves the governorship of this great state when they are willing to lie to get it and that’s exactly what his opponent has done for this entire campaign is to lie about Tom Corbett and lie about his record on education. Let me tell you everybody, if the state of Pennsylvania wants someone with honesty and integrity there’s only one choice in this race and that’s Tom Corbett,” said New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, as he rallied the crowd.
This is the fourth time Christie, Chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has visited the Philadelphia area — stumping for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett in the past few months.
“But we gotta finish this and we are. You heard Sue talk about me not never being predicted to win any race. I love proving them wrong and you’re going to help me prove them wrong again aren’t you?” Governor Corbett said to the crowd of supporters.
Philadelphia is so important in this race because it has a huge democratic voting base. 80 percent of registered voters in Philadelphia are democrats. Whoever wins the votes in Philadelphia and its four surrounding counties, is expected to win the gubernatorial election. Corbett is unpopular in Philadelphia partly because of how the city’s financially troubled schools were affected by his first budget.
Democratic candidate Tom Wolf has led in the polls. On October 31st, a poll from Muhlenberg College and the Morning Call, found Tom Wolf with 51 percent of the vote and Governor Corbett with 39 percent.
