York’s Chief Recovery Officer is pushing for another vote on the York City School District’s future, but this one would turn all of its school over to a charter company.

Chief Recovery Officer David Meckley told the school board about the vote on Monday. The move comes less than a month after the board voted against changing a few of the city’s schools to charters.

This one would change all of York’s public schools to charter schools in July 2015.

Opponents say this is an attempt at a last-mute takeover of the schools before Governor Tom Corbett leaves office. They say moving to a charter system would be damaging for students, with no public school alternative.

"They have a very high turnover rate in their staff, there's no oversight on how they spend their tax dollars," says Clovis Gallon, a teacher at William Penn High School.

Meckley did not respond to requests for comment.

The vote will happen on Wednesday, November 19th.

"They're elected for the community and the citizens of this community, and our thoughts and ideas, so hopefully they stand up for what the people of this community want," says Gallon.

The proposal will also be presented at a public Community Education Coalition meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12th at 6:30 pm, in the district's administration building.
