CARLISLE (WPMT)-A 22-year-old man is in custody after police said he abducted a woman and two small children in Carlisle Tuesday during a custody exchange.
Authorities charged Charles W. Hinton III, of Shippensburg, with three counts of kidnapping, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking and firearms violations. He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North Hanover Street around 8:15 a.m. for a reported abduction. Hinton took the woman and children, ages 2 and 1, by force at gunpoint, according to police reports.
Hinton was apprehended a short time later by the Shippensburg Police Department. The children were found unharmed in the vehicle in their car seats.
The woman was not hurt, but had been tied up by Hinton, police said. Officers also recovered a loaded gun in the vehicle.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
