HARRISBURG, PA(WPMT) No pension for convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky. The State Employees Retirement Board on Thursday, rejected by an 8 – 3 vote, a petition seeking to restore Sandusky’s $4,900 a month pension. The pension was canceled after the July 2012 conviction of the former Penn State Football defensive coach in Centre County.
In a 122-page opinion, the board determined that Sandusky continued as a Penn State employee after his announced retirement in 1999. The board says as an employee, Sandusky was subject to a 2004 state law that added sexual offenses against students to the crimes that trigger forfeiture. His wife Dottie, is also denied survivorship benefits.
Sandusky’s attorney has 30 days to appeal the decision in Commonwealth Court. He says he will file a court challenge to the decision.
Sandusky, now 70, is serving a 30 to 60 year sentence after his conviction of sexual abuse charges involving 10 boys.
