A cold bitter Saturday and still no sign of Medard Kowalski.

"They just want answers. They want him back so that they could have a time to start the grieving process," said Tim Dickson, a close family friend of Kowalski.

The 17-year-old from New Cumberland was last seen on December 1, in a canoe headed to Hoak Island.

"He was a good athlete and he enjoyed being out in the wilderness and everything and if he had an opportunity to just go sit out in his boat for a little bit, that's what he did," added Dickson.

Hunting is what he loved. His canoe and backpack were found in the river the day after he went missing. The search has now turned into a recovery effort.

"It's definitely taken a toll on friends, family, everybody. This whole community has pulled together like nothing I've ever seen," Dickson said.

Four boats and an eight-man diving team from the Schuylkill Haven area set out in the waters of the Susquehanna River early Saturday morning.

"The murkiness wasn't as bad for them today so the water is starting to clear up," said Tim Stoner with New Cumberland River Rescue.

But even with the weather helping, the search turned up empty. "We're going to continue to search until we bring little Med home," Dickson said.

They'll be out searching again Sunday -- marking exactly three weeks since Kowalski went missing.
