Here’s a look at the expected precipitation timeline for Monday’s system.

Light pockets of freezing rain transitions to rain Monday morning.

After a much milder day with temperatures running near averages, some wintry weather is expected. Temperatures drop into the middle 20s to lower 30s this evening, setting us up for a wintry mix overnight. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at midnight for our entire region. Close to midnight, the onset of the light wintry mix approaches. The brunt of the overnight mix is expected to be sleet, freezing rain, and rain. However, some flakes could mix in at the onset, especially along the northern counties. This is a very minimal chance for counties along the state line. Little to no snow accumulation is expected. Through the overnight period, it becomes mainly pockets of freezing rain and rain. By about 10 A.M. Monday, the precipitation should transition completely to rain. Ice totals range from a trace to a tenth of an inch, but some areas could see a little more, particularly the northern valleys. Watch for icy areas before the complete transition over to rain, so use caution through the night and during the morning commute. Otherwise, expect spotty, light showers through the rest of the day. High temperatures reach the middle 40s.

Tuesday we catch a bit of a break from the wintry weather with more sunshine. However, frigid air manages to slip back into the area. Expect high temperatures in the middle 20s. Wednesday and Thursday are cold as well with partly cloudy skies. Highs are near 30 on Wednesday and in the middle 30s on Thursday. Friday temperatures fall back a couple degrees with passing clouds.

As we look to next weekend, a warm up finally looks on tap! Saturday brings plenty of sunshine with high temperatures well above seasonable averages in the lower to middle 40s. A weak disturbance slides through into Sunday, but it’s still not a bad day. Highs are still above averages, ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Have a great week!
