WASHINGTON, DC (WPMT) U. S. Senators Pat Toomey(R) and Bob Casey(D) are named to serve on key senate subcommittees in the new Congress.

Senator Toomey will chair the Finance Committee’s subcommittee on health care. As chairman of the health care subcommittee, Senator Toomey plans to conduct oversight of the President’s health care law and advance policies that help address the needs of Pennsylvania families. He favors repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and over the next two years, he aims to examine ways to roll back the costly taxes and unneeded regulations that are harming the economy, undermining health care delivery, and driving up costs for patients.

In addition to the top Republican job on the health care subcommittee, Senator Toomey also will serve on the Finance Committee’s panels on Taxation and IRS Oversight and Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy.

“I look forward to chairing the health care subcommittee, which is a great opportunity for our state and for families who are concerned about the direction our health system is heading. Health care is an important issue for Pennsylvania – it is a major part of our economy and is critical to everyone’s well-being. As chairman of the health care subcommittee, I will work with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to modernize our health care system, improve quality of care, and lower costs, Senator Toomey said. I will continue to push back against the President’s fundamentally flawed health care law, which ultimately must be repealed. We don’t need a health care law that reduces patient choice, increases taxes and medical bills, and undermines job creation,”

Senator Bob Casey has been named to key subcommittees as part of the Senate Committee on Finance. Casey will serve as the lead Democrat of the Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight and will also be a member of the Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure.

“I’m pleased to serve on these important subcommittees to continue to fight for Pennsylvania priorities,” Senator Casey said. “It’s critical that Congress invest in our nation’s infrastructure so we can upgrade our ailing bridges and roads. In addition, this Congress has a unique opportunity to reform our tax code so it works better for businesses and middle class families. I look forward to working to move forward tax reform in a bipartisan way.”

Pennsylvania is a leader in energy production including natural gas, nuclear, coal and renewables. The Commonwealth also has the unfortunate distinction of being one of the leaders in structurally deficient bridges.
