Police in Lancaster are charging a 23-year-old mother after they say she killed her 1-year-old daughter.
According to police, Shondraya Lafay Dickson, 23, was located and arrested on Friday evening after police believe she is responsible for killing her 1-year-old daughter, Ja'Zirah Rodgers on January 2 at their home on North Plum Street in Lancaster
Investigators said the toddler’s father reported to Lancaster County Children and Youth Agency that Dickson physically abused the girl and that he didn’t know where they were. CYA reported Rodgers missing on Thursday afternoon after several attempts to track her and her mother down since Jan. 8.
Detectives spent Thursday evening and all day Friday searching for the child and Dickson, who also has two other children (a 3-year-old girl and a 3 month old boy).
Police say the investigation led them to an address in Coatesville where Dickson was found with her two other children who were not harmed.
Officials say that the Dickson had provided conflicting accounts of the whereabouts of her missing child. Police investigation revealed that Dickson assaulted and killed the child at the North Plum Street address and then disposed of her body.
Dickson is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, intimidation, retaliation or obstruction in child abuse cases and endangering the welfare of children.
She is currently being held without bail.
