Police in Lancaster are charging a 23-year-old mother after they say she killed her 1-year-old daughter.

According to police, Shondraya Lafay Dickson, 23, was located  and arrested on Friday evening after police believe she is responsible for killing her 1-year-old daughter, Ja'Zirah Rodgers on January 2 at their home on  North Plum Street in Lancaster

Investigators said the toddler’s father reported to Lancaster County Children and Youth Agency that Dickson physically abused the girl and that he didn’t know where they were. CYA reported Rodgers missing on Thursday afternoon after several attempts to track her and her mother down since Jan. 8.

Detectives spent Thursday evening and all day Friday searching for the child and Dickson, who also has two other  children (a 3-year-old girl and a 3 month old boy).

Police say the investigation led them to an address in Coatesville where Dickson was found with her two other children who were not harmed.

Officials say that the Dickson had provided conflicting accounts of the whereabouts of her missing child.  Police investigation revealed that Dickson assaulted and killed the child at the North Plum Street address and then disposed of her body.

Dickson is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, intimidation, retaliation or obstruction in child abuse cases and endangering the welfare of children.

She is currently being held without bail.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancaster City Police at 717-735-3300.

Three kids at age 23. You could have had a handle on life by age 23, without kids.
Why aren’t birth controls advertised more on television commercials?

Not much sense in what could have been, the fact remains, she apparently and with complete disregard, took the life of a sweet and precious child. Children are not born evil, they are given to us, on loan, to love and nurture, keep safe from harm. Life in prison, without her children is surely what this hateful woman deserves! People who feel like they can take their anger out on the innocent, don’t ever deserve the gift of children. This story just breaks my heart for the tiny little life, snubbed out. And by the one person she should have been able to trust to keep her safe.
