Police have charged a man in an accidental shooting outside a Highspire bar Tuesday night.

Police said they were called to Champions Sports Bar at 300 Second Street just after 8 p.m. and arrived to find several people standing over the victim, who was lying in a pool of blood on the asphalt.

According to a police news release, Devin M. Peterson, 21, of Marion Center, and the victim,  a co-worker,  were leaving the sports bar and seated inside a vehicle.

Peterson was unloading a pistol in the backseat when the gun discharged police said.  The bullet went through the front passenger seat and struck the victim  in the lower back/buttocks area.

The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of injuries that are not life threatening, police said.

Peterson was charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was transported to Dauphin County Judicial Center for processing and released.
