Pieces of history, some dating back to the 1600's were found in Guilford Township, Franklin County.
A master gardener dug up 14 coins dating as far back as 1672. Three Native American Arrowhead tools were also found. They were discovered from the ground in front of the historic Patrick Gass home on Franklin Farm Lane.

County Commissioner David Keller says Gass was on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He says the county's looking into the artifacts' value. Most of the coins have a face value of a penny. Keller says they'll now become a significant part of the county's historical preservation.

Keller says, "Children will be drawn to that and adults and then you can say you know these were found on the property of Patrick Gass. Do you know who he is? Here's his story."

Janet Pollard is the executive director of the Franklin County Visitor's Bureau. She says the findings set a foundation for the future.

Pollard says, "If you can understand your history, you can better plan for your future, we have a strong history in Franklin County."
