SADSBURY TOWNSHIP (WPMT)-A Lancaster County man was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash that involved a horse and buggy and sent three people to the hospital last month, state police said.

Michael Lee Roe, 34, of Kinzers, is charged with three counts of accidents involving death or personal injury, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, failure to stop and give information or render aid and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection. He was arrested Friday and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.

The hit and run accident happened on Dec. 29 along the 6400 block of White Oak Road in Sadsbury Township. The driver of the horse and buggy told police he was struck by a vehicle as he was pulling out of a driveway. Three people who were in the buggy were taken to the hospital with injuries.  The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Roe, fled the scene of the crash.

Investigators were contacted on Jan. 10 by a person who believed Roe was behind the hit and run crash. The caller told police that he confronted Roe about the damage to his Honda Civic and that Rowe told him he struck a deer.

Authorities later learned that Roe’s car was towed from his home in Kinzers to his grandfather’s home in Atglen. State police went to the home and found Roe’s Honda Civic heavily damaged, in a two bay garage behind the residence.

Roe’s father, Donald Jr.,  was in the garage and told investigators that “he (Michael Roe) hit a horse and buggy,” according to the criminal complaint. He also told police that Roe left the scene because he was scared. According to court records, Roe’s father said “he didn’t tell me about it, I had to pull it out of him tooth and nail.”

Investigators executed a search warrant on the vehicle on Jan. 13 and said the evidence collected in Roe’s car matched the evidence collected at the scene of the crash.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 12.
