Firefighters in Lancaster City received a new set of wheels on Friday, and it's expected to help keep the men and women who serve the city safe.

The Lancaster City Fire Foundation presented the City Bureau of Fire with a brand new Rapid Intervention Vehicle. The RIV was purchased with funds raised in this year's capital campaign and is designed as a multipurpose vehicle which will hold all of their fire equipment in one place in case of emergency.

"If there is a firefighter mayday, basically crews still need to keep fighting the fire as they were," Lancaster City Fire Chief Tim Gregg said, "but we need to have an organized rescue effort. This truck will enable us to centralize all of our equipment."

The foundation has raised about $35,000 dollars so far, which helped with the purchase of the truck. but they still need more to get more equipment and radios.
