Anne Arundel County, MD –  Rick Warrick, 38, and his fiancee were struck by a car along the Baltimore Washington Parkway in Maryland last weekend.

Warrick was killed, and his fiancee was seriously injured.  The couple had pulled over to change a flat tire when they were hit, and the other driver did not stop.

Warrick’s children were in the car and called 911, but the response they received was less than sympathetic.

As the girl tries to explain the obviously upsetting situation the operator says, “OK, let’s stop whining. OK, let’s stop whining. It’s hard to understand you.”

Anne Arundel County Fire Department admitted the operator used a poor choice of words.

Police are still looking for the driver responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-610-8737.

It is much easier to sensationalize this and vilify an operator when only a snippet of the conversation is used. I don’t know if that is the case here.
