Giant and Martin’s food markets are pulling Nutrsica’s chicken and chick pea dog food from their shelves because of a possible salmonella contamination.
The recall only affects 4 lb., bags with a UPC number 88424412495, with the following first five digits of the Lot Code and Best By Dates:
- Lot Codes beginning with: 4G29P, 4G31P, 4H01P, 4H04P, 4H05P and 4H06P
- Best By Dates of: Jul 28 16, Jul 30 16, Jul 31 16, Aug 03 16, Aug 04 16 and Aug 05 16
There are no reports of any pets or owners getting sick from bacteria, but the product could be potentially harmful to dogs who ingest the product or to humans from handling contaminated pet products. Pet owners should thoroughly wash their hands after having contact with this product and clean any surfaces that were exposed.
Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days. Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to GIANT/MARTIN’S for a full refund.
