YORK, PA (WPMT)  Some York Water Company customers might be noticing a stronger than normal taste or odor of chlorine in your water recently.

According to York Water officials this is typical for this time of year when the fields are frozen and we get rainfall. The cold water flows off the frozen fields instead of infiltrating into the ground and requires extra chlorine to treat the water.

Although you may taste extra chlorine, it is perfectly safe and meets all water quality standards. It will likely clear up in a couple of days. In the meantime, it is suggested if you’d like to remove the chlorine taste from your drinking water, just fill a pitcher or container without a lid and let it stand for a few hours and the chlorine should dissipate.

The York Water Company franchised territory covers 47 municipalities within York and Adams Counties.
