A former U.S. Postal Service worker has admitted to stealing and destroying mail. Stacie Ann Stevens, 41, of Hanover, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday after being charged with destruction of mail. According to her plea agreement, Stevens admitted to stealing greeting cards and other mail and stealing the cash and gift cards contained inside.
The investigation came to light after residents complained about missing or torn mail. Investigators said Stevens was caught in Oct. 2014 on surveillance video using one of the stolen gift cards at a store.
Stevens has since resigned from the Postal Service.
Under the plea deal, Stevens agreed pay back restitution to the victims. It remains unclear how much money she stole.
Stevens could get up to one year in prison and face $100,000 in fines when she’s sentenced.
