CARROLL TOWNSHIP (WPMT)-The parent’s of a 6-month-old boy who died in January after being bitten by a rat will not face criminal charges, according to a news release from the Carrol Township Police Department.
During a news conference in March, Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall said the boy died Jan. 1 at Holy Spirit Hospital from meningitis and myocarditis caused by rat-bite fever. The boy had been bitten on his finger by a rat his family was keeping to feed pet snakes. The boy was initially brought to the hospital on Dec. 30 with a fever and a rash. A doctor treated and released him with medicine, Hall said.
He was brought back to Holy Spirit’s emergency room on Jan. 1, suffering from a high fever and lethargy. He died later that day in the hospital, Hall said.
Carroll Township Police and the York County District Attorney’s office investigated the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death and ultimately found “no criminal wrong doing by the parents.”
