Penn State’s chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity has been closed, according to a statement from the national organization.
“This decision came as a result of violations of Pi Kappa Phi’s risk management policies, as well as chapter activities that violated the sanctions imposed by the national fraternity earlier this spring. Despite ongoing support from the national headquarters staff, local volunteers, and the university’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, the student members were unable to abide by the fraternity’s standards of conduct,” the statement reads.
The sanctions mentioned in the statement were imposed after an investigation into allegations of hazing, alcohol use, disorderly conduct and other violations.
“Following the suspension, Pi Kappa Phi will have the opportunity return to Penn State in fall 2017; but in accordance with the Interfraternity Council decision, will not occupy the chapter house prior to April 2018. The current student members of the Alpha Mu Chapter will not be permitted to affiliate with the chapter when Pi Kappa Phi returns to campus,” the statement reads.
The decision comes weeks after it was revealed another fraternity, Kappa Delta Rho, is under police investigation because members allegedly posted nude or partially clothed women asleep or passed out.
