LANCASTER (WPMT) — A Lancaster woman is facing charges after her 6-month-old son was hospitalized after consuming cocaine last month, police said.

Tanya Marie Madden, 24, is charged with aggravated assault of a child less than 6 years of age, endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors and possession of cocaine. Madden was arrested Friday and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.

Lancaster County Children and Youth notified Lancaster City Police after a 6-month-old boy was admitted to Lancaster General Hospital with cocaine in his system on March 19. The baby was subsequently transferred to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment.  Medical experts determined the boy was suffering from acute cocaine toxicity.

Authorities searched Madden’s home along the 100 block of North Plum Street in Lancaster and found drug packaging material, including three clear plastic sandwich baggies. One of the baggies had white residue in the bag and tested positive for cocaine, investigators said.

Doctors determined that the infant could not have ingested the cocaine accidentally. According to police reports, Madden was with the child at the time he ingested the drugs.

The baby has since been released from the hospital and will continue to undergo medical evaluations. Police said the boy has been placed with a foster family.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 16.
