Police ID motorcyclist killed in West Hempfield Township crash

WEST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP (WPMT) — A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday after colliding with another motorcyclist along the 4600 block of Marietta Avenue (Route 23) in West Hempfield Township.

Police said Jed Sweigart, of Mount Joy, was driving east along Route 23 around 12:49 p.m. when 72-year-old Donald Kurtz pulled out from a driveway and into the path of Sweigart. Sweigart lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and later died.

Kurtz, of Wrightsville, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The case is still under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Officer Ryan Draper at 717-285-5191 or 1-800-957-2677.
