The tax deadline is tomorrow

MECHANICSBURG (WPMT)-Police in Mechanicsburg are warning residents to beware of tax day fraudsters pretending to be from the United States Treasury.

The criminals are reportedly posing as IRS agents, calling residents, and demanding money. They threaten to arrest the victim if they don’t pay up, investigators said. Then they direct the victim to purchase “Green Dot” cards or send money through Western Union.

Police say if you get a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, hang up immediately.

It is believed that the high volume of calls are related to today being Tax Day.
