A York City mission is spreading the joy of reading.

The York Rescue Mission is selling books to the community in the fellowship hall of York Alliance Church. It's part of the mission's 2-day spring book sale to benefit the non-profit. All books are on sale for just 25 cents or one dollar. From fantasy to history, volunteers say there's a little something for everyone, and that they're happy to dedicate their time to the cause.

"It's important to me first of all because I enjoy books," York Mission volunteer Audrey Brubaker said. "I look at books as my friends. Books keep; they won't turn yellow in the refrigerator-- or green or purple--they keep, and  I also believe in the work of the York Rescue Mission and so I'm happy to volunteer my time to do this."

The mission, located on Rathton Road in York is still taking book donations. The book sale continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
