MONROE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Police say vandals damaged several Civil War era tombstones at the Bethel Church Cemetery in Monroe Township, Cumberland County. The church's pastor, Brian Warner, says he was mowing the lawn when he noticed half of the tombstones were knocked over and smashed.  Two of the stones mark the graves of Civil War soldiers and other church members, including two babies, who were buried during the Civil War era. State police are investigating the vandalism.

Warner says the last person to be buried in the cemetery was in 1870.

Bethel Church is now called the Churchtown Church of God.
