YORK, Pa. -- People in York came together on Sunday, in memory of the City's fallen Police Officers.

The York City Police Department held a Memorial Service at Faith United Church of Christ.

The Service is also in honor of National Police Week, which runs through May 16th.

President John F. Kennedy established the week in 1962.

It pays tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the protection and safety of others.

Pastor of Faith United Church of Christ, Ron Olerich says, "It's good to encourage them and pray for them and their ongoing service in the community.  That's something we believe is important because without God's support in our lives, we're left to ourselves and God's support gives us so much more."

Similar ceremonies are being held all across the country.

York City Police Chief, Wes Kahley and York Major, Kim Bracey were also in attendance at Sunday's service.
