BELLEFONTE, Pa. — Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky wants his child sexual abuse conviction thrown out. In an appeal filed by Sandusky’s new lawyer, Alexander Lindsay, the former coach argued that pretrial publicity, leaks and unprepared defense lawyers are some of the reasons to throw out his conviction. Lindsay also argued that the stories of Sandusky’s accusers changed over time and may have been motivated by a chance to reach a cash settlement.
In 2012, Sandusky was found guilty of sexually abusing 10 boys and sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison. Sandusky and his lawyer say his right to a fair trial was violated and there should be a new trial and a dismissal of charges.
This is not the first time Sandusky has filed an appeal. Just after his conviction in 2012, he tried to get a new trial and have the convictions against him overturned. That request was denied in January of 2013.
The attorney general’s office is reviewing the new petition and plans to file a response.
