MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Two people are facing drug charges after a traffic stop Wednesday near an elementary school in Middletown led to the discovery of hundreds of packets of heroin.

George Ortiz, 32, of Lancaster and his passenger, Sierra Adams, 21, of Mount Joy, are both charged with possession with intent to deliver drugs and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Ortiz was also cited for driving with a suspended license and failing to stop at a stop sign. Both were taken to Dauphin County Prison for processing. Ortiz’s bail is set at $100,000.  Adams is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Officers stopped their vehicle along Race Street near Fink Elementary School  after Ortiz failed to stop at a stop sign on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators discovered more than 600 packets of heroin hidden in a compartment in the vehicle, police said.

Both were taken into custody at the scene.

Police also said Ortiz was free on $50,000 bail after being charged with several felonies in York County last month.

A preliminary hearing for the pair is scheduled for May 15.
