LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.–Dog adoptions have been temporarily suspended at the Lancaster County SPCA after the sudden unexplained death of one of the dogs at the shelter, according to a statement posted on the organizations Facebook page.

The animal shelter suspended dog adoptions until Tuesday while staff and veterinarians determine what killed the dog. Samples from the deceased dog were sent out for testing. The cause of the deaths is still pending.

All dogs will be evaluated by the veterinarian before being adopted.

In the meantime, the shelter will remain open to the public. Cat adoptions from the shelter are not affected.
