EAST PENNSBORO Twp., Pa. – Two people are homeless after fire damages their duplex in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County The fire broke out just after 2 pm at the home in the 200 block of Susquehanna Avenue.

The first firefighters reported heavy smoke showing when they arrived. An additional engine was called for manpower. The fire began on the first floor of the home on the left side of the duplex. The female resident escaped unharmed. Fire crews quickly brought under the fire control.

One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment for heat exhaustion. He is expected to be alright. Firefighters were on the scene until almost 5 o’clock mopping up hot spots because of the age of the building.  A PSP Fire Marshal is investigating the exact cause of the fire.

The resident on the right side of the duplex was forced out of her home due to high levels of carbon monoxide. Both women are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
