BERKS COUNTY, Pa.–A man was shot and killed in Berks County after allegedly trying to rob a homeowner last month, according to Pennsylvania State Police reports.

State Troopers responded to a home along the first block of Long Lane Road in Earl Township around 11 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot on May 31.

The homeowner, identified as Andre Vernet, told investigators that he believed the man was trying to rob him. Police said the intruder tried to shock Vernet with a stun gun. But Vernet shot the robber and then realized he knew the man.

The robber was later identifed as 52-year-old Robert Stoudt, of Birdsboro. He was pronounced dead by the Berks County Coroner on June 1.

According to police reports, Stoudt conspired with three others to rob Vernet, police said. The robbery plot consisted of 18-year-old Breyah Staude, of Boyerstown, a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, police said.

Staude and two juveniles were arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
