FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. - A Bucks County student who is battling a genetic disease is going up against his school's "Field Day" policy. Fourteen-year-old Jake Wesely recently received a letter from Bucks County Technical High School stating he is "medically exempt" from participating in the activities. The letter states he has to wear a special wristband, and if he tries to take part, he could be disciplined.
Jake has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which weakens muscle function over time. He has to use a wheelchair to get around.
After reading the letter, he immediately posted on Twitter and reached out to special needs groups-- calling for justice.
"When I got the letter I was pretty mad," he said, "I don't think people in wheelchairs or with any disease should be excluded from activities."
When school officials saw what Jake wrote, they immediately retracted a letter they've been putting out for years, and issued a full apology.
