BERWICK TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A 33-year-old man crashed his vehicle into another car during a police chase in Adams County Wednesday night, according to Pennsylvania State Police reports.

Troopers received several phone calls about an erratic driver near New Oxford around 9 p.m.

A few minutes later officers with Eastern Adams Regional Police tried to pull the driver over on Hanover Street.  But the driver, later identified as Donald Robinson, of Dover, refused to stop and took off.

A short time later–Robinson crashed into a guard rail and then collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Hanover and Carlisle Road in Berwick Township. The impact of the crash sent Robinson’s vehicle over a curb and down a 10-foot embankment, police said.

The other driver, identified as 81-year-old Francis Karchnak, of East Berlin, sustained major injuries and was flown to York Hospital. Karchnak is currently listed in stable condition.

Robinson was taken to York Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate but say preliminary evidence suggests that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.
