LEMOYNE, Pa. — Good news for commuters and other travelers. Westbound Route 581 over 10th Street was reopened to traffic shortly before 3:30pm this afternoon. PennDOT says all went well this weekend.

Westbound Route 581 was closed at around 9pm on Friday to replace the westbound bridge superstructure over 10th Street in Lemoyne. The last section of the old westbound Route 581 superstructure was removed at 4:30am on Saturday morning and the third and last section of the new bridge was placed around 12:30pm Saturday afternoon. After expansion dams and rebar were installed, rapid set concrete was placed early Sunday morning, between 4am and 5:30am. The concrete has cured and the new bridge has been opened to traffic – well ahead of schedule.

There are two weekend closures to go for the placement of a latex-modified concrete surface on new eastbound and westbound bridge decks. Until the new surface is installed on the decks, motorists will experience a small bump first driving on and then off the new bridges.
