ALLEGHANY COUNTY, NY–  State Police are currently searching in Allegany County, New York for the escaped prison inmates who are now two of the most wanted criminals in the country.

Richard Matt and David Sweat have been on the run for 15-days since their escape from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York.

Police say they are following new leads in the county and reportedly consider the area they are now searching a “hot spot.” Radio traffic indicates large numbers of officers are moving into the area.

On Friday evening, authorities said they had received reports of two sightings of the men in Steuben county last weekend, however those sightings are unconfirmed and came from two separate individuals.

A female prison employee is now facing charges in connection with helping Matt and Sweat escape the prison using power tools.
