UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa.–The former president of the Lickdale Association of Parents and Faculty has been charged with stealing over $8,000 from that organization, according to Pennsylvania State Police reports.

Monica Bortz, 38, of Jonestown, was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft by failure to make required disposition of  funds received on June 4 . She was released after posting $5,000 unsecured bail.

Bortz , who was serving as president of the Lickdale Association of Parents and Faculty, took more than $8,000 in cash from the organization in various amounts between Aug. 2013 and Aug 2014, according to state police.

The missing funds were discovered during a financial audit. Investigators said Bortz admitted to stealing the money, which she said she used for miscellaneous everyday items.

A preliminary hearing  is scheduled for July 23.
