Dauphin County Commissioners will approve an engineering contract Wednesday, which is expected to show a link between the rains from Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene in 2011 and the sinkholes which have impacted South 14th Street in Harrisburg.
According to a news release, linking the two events would allow the county to give $1 million in federal disaster recovery money to the city. More than 50 residents have been impacted by the sinkholes, which appeared in March 2014.
The commissioners point out that money could be used as a local match for potential state aid. It is estimated that fixing the sinkholes and relocating residents could cost $3 million to $5 million, according to Dauphin County.
The commissioners will meet Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Dauphin County Administration Building.
