SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. – The last of three men involved in an early morning invasion and robbery a Schuylkill County motel is taken into custody. Frank David Vannicola, 25, of Minersville, was arrested without incident by Schuylkill Haven Borough Police late Monday.

Vannicola was one of three men, Dennis Shafe, 30, of Pottsville, and John Joseph Luback, 31, of Minersville, who were driven at 4:07 am to the Country Squire Motel, on Route 61, South North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County by Ashley Marie Marie Stumhoffer, 26, of Schuylkill Haven Borough.

All three male suspects went to door of a motel room. One of them kicked at the door. The suspects were then invited into the motel room by the occupants, Adam Sturdean, 32 and Isaiah Dewan, 31.   Sturdean and Shafe later left the room together.  Once outside police say Shafe fired one shot at Sturdean.  Shafe and Sturdean then went back into the room. There were no reported injuries.

Neighbors upon hearing the shot called 911. Pennsylvania State Police, Schuylkill Haven Borough police and PSU Schuylkill Campus police responded to the scene.

Luback, Shafe and Vannicola ran, but then Luback and Shafe gave up and were taken into custody.  Police recovered the weapon that was fired.

Shafe is charged with Criminal Attempt Homicide, Robbery and Theft. Luback, Stumhoffer and Vannicola are charged with Robbery and Theft.
