MIDDLETOWN, Pa.-- Firefighters in Pennsylvania are heading to California to help battle wildfires.

40 Firefighters flew out to the West Coast on Saturday.

They will help fight about two dozen wildfires in the Northern part of California.

But before takeoff, they gathered at the Lower Swatara Fire House in Middletown, Dauphin County.

They are joining crews from Ohio and Maryland, and expect to be in California for 14 days.

The group is a mixture of state employees, local firefighters, and volunteers who have received state training in fighting wildfires.

Fran Chadick from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry says, "Firefighting is never a game you want to get behind on, it's a game where you always want to stay ahead of the curve and actually put margin for error into the equation.  I'm feeling really good about this assignment."

Fire crews from Pennsylvania typically help fight out-of-state fires several times a year.
