LANCASTER TWP., Pa. – A firefighter suffers an electric shock while battling a two alarm fire in Lancaster Township, just outside the city limits.  The fire broke out at about 9:32 pm in a three story apartment building at 905 East King Street.  The first firefighters to arrive on the scene reported smoke and fire above the roof of a third floor apartment.  A second alarm went out for more manpower. A total of 14 station responded to the scene.

APARTMENT2IMG_5950Trees and power-lines in front of the building made it difficult for firefighters to fight the fire. PPL crews were called to the scene to cut the electrical power.  The fire was declared under control at about 11:15 pm.

The firefighter who was shocked was transported to Lancaster General Hospital for observation.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to an adult and three children left homeless by the fire.
