SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A good Samaritan is being credited with stopping a would-be thief at the Walmart in Springettsbury Township on Sunday.

The unidentified person came to the aid of a woman who had her wallet stolen from her purse while she was loading groceries into her vehicle in the parking lot along the 2800 block of East Market Street, police said.

The suspect, later identified as Nathaniel P. McNicol, tried to run away after stealing the wallet–but was stopped by a witness at a nearby bank and detained until police arrived.

McNicol was arrested and is charged with theft and receiving stolen property. He was taken to York County Central Booking for arraignment.
