The community came together in York to welcome freshmen to their first day of high school. Those in attendance cheered for the students as they made their way to William Penn Senior High School.

The district started a freshman academy this year to help students as they transition to high school and put them on a solid path toward graduation.

"We want the community to know that we are really thankful to them and we really look forward to everyone coming to make this a great school year," said Brandon Carter, the Principal of William Penn Senior High School.

This is the first time the high school has held an event like this. Administrators say because it was such a huge success, they plan on doing it again next year.
