DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - An automaker's national non-profit is aiding in the battle against childhood cancer. Hyundai Hope on Wheels presented Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital with the $50,000 "Hyundai Impact Award" on Thursday. The donation is in honor of the research conducted by Dr. Barbara Miller and the hospital.
As part of the event, kids fighting cancer put their hand prints on a white Hyundai Santa Fe Sport-- the official vehicle of the organization. This ceremony commemorated the children's battle with the disease.
Merchandising Manger for the Hyundai eastern region, Megan Schropshire, says the automaker is committed to helping find a cure.
"We're not just in the business of building and selling cars," Schropshire said, "more importantly we're about doing our part to give back to the communities that we live and do business in. Each and every time you see a Hyundai that owner is making a difference in joining us against the national fight against pediatric cancer. "
Hyundai Hope on Wheels has awarded over 100 million dollars to Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. The money helps fund state-of-the-art-care, comprehensive support, and pioneering research.
"With nearly 15,000 children being diagnosed with cancer each year, this a fight that together we can and must win," Schropshire said.
This year, the nonprofit will surpass $100 million in donations to pediatric cancer institutions nationwide since it began in 1998.
