INDIANAPOLIS, IN– A disturbing message sent though a child’s baby monitor. The Denman family of Indianapolis heard music playing from their two-year-old daughter’s monitor, and quickly realized what it was.
“Someone was playing ‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police,” said Jared Denman.
At first they thought it was a joke, but soon realized someone hacked into the camera.
“Our privacy was just invaded,” said Denman, “He started doing sexual noises on the camera.”
After an internet search, Denman found he wasn’t alone. A hacker had posted similar videos with the same song playing from other families’ baby monitors. He even created a Twitter account to brag about the breaches.
“It agitated me a lot because who is to know if those people are even aware that the videos have been posted online. We kind of felt violated and we didn’t feel secure in our own home,” said Denman.
Experts advice people to make it challenging for hackers to infiltrate your home internet network, and to create a strong wireless network password.
The Denmans forgot to change the factory pre-set username and password that came on the camera. As a result, the hacker was able to access the camera.
“The biggest advice I have for other parents is to change the username and password,” said Denman.
