HARRISBURG, Pa. – An investigation is underway involving multiple agencies in the weekend death of a Harrisburg infant. City police responded at 11:30 pm Friday evening to the 1900 block of North 5th Street for reports of an infant in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim’s mother holding the unresponsive infant. The baby was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
Police performed chest compressions on the infant and summoned EMS personnel. EMS arrived and transported the baby to Harrisburg Hospital. The infant could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
City Police, Detectives, and Forensics Investigators, as well as members of the child death/near death investigation task force were summoned and conducted an infant death investigation. Outside agencies involved included the District Attorney’s office, Dauphin County Children and Youth, and the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation continues, however police say all current evidence supports a finding of an accidental death.
