WHITTIER, Calif. — California authorities are investigating the death of a 19-year-old special needs student.

The student, identified as Hun Joon Lee, was found unresponsive in the back of a school bus Friday, after his mother called to report he hadn’t returned home.

The boy was picked up Friday morning to attend Sierra Vista Adult School, and when he didn’t return home by 4 p.m his mother called the school.

The school contacted the bus company, that sent a driver to check the boy’s bus.  Police say the teen was found lying in the aisle.

According to police, they responded to a 911 call at the bus yard and found drivers attempting CPR on the student.

It was not clear how long the student had been on the bus.

Police are investigating the possibility the student may have been left on the bus all day.
