STEELTON, Pa. -- The Steelton borough manager and police chief are out of jobs.

The Steelton borough council voted Monday to terminate manager Sara Gellatly. They also announced police chief John King resigned.

Gellatly and King were placed on administrative leave two weeks ago, when the Department of Labor and Industry found they were conducting building code inspections without proper certification.

In a closed-door meeting, the council appointed former member Doug Brown to take over as manager.

Some people at the meeting say they were not happy with that process, and wondered why other candidates weren't announced or considered for the job.

"What they're basically doing is instead of rebuilding their credibility and transparency, they've just tarnished it again and what has been happening here will continue to happen over and over and over again," said Trish Abbatello.

Steelton Mayor Thomas Acri will appoint a new police chief.
