MOUNT JOY TWP, PA- A former Mount Joy Borough police detective is being charged for falsifying his payroll documents over a two-year time span.

According to documents filed by the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office, Joseph D. Goody, 53, of Bainbridge allowed himself 221.5 hours of paid time off at a rate of 34.21 per hour. Totaling at $7,577.51

Goody falsified hours on 33 payroll sheets, 29 of which he approved himself while acting as the departments officer in charge.

Court records show that Goody would take the day off, write it down as vacation or sick day but then wouldn’t deduct the time from his vacation or sick time.

Authorities say these types of incidents took place from September 2012 to October 2014.

According to court papers, officials  began looking into the matter after a complaint was filed with the district attorneys office in February.

Goody is charged with  62 counts of tampering with public records or information, one count of theft by deception, and one count of conflict of interest. All felony offenses.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Scott Albert Thursday morning and released on unsecured bail.
