HARRISBURG, Pa. –The Deputy Pennsylvania Attorney General who has been the lead counsel in the case against former Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed, is leaving the Attorney General’s Office. Clarke Madden is leaving the office on Friday. He will be starting work at the law firm Smigel, Anderson, and Sacks in Harrisburg beginning Monday.
Madden says co-counsel Rebecca Franz will take over the Reed case.
“It has been a privilege working for (First Deputy Attorney General) Bruce Beemer and serving the people of the Commonwealth,” said Madden. “I look forward to representing clients with the same energy and diligence.”
On leaving the Reed case behind, Madden said he feels conflicted not being able to see it through to completion. “It should roll right on, though, and Becca (Franz) is superb. She understands the case and in some cases, she’s better working on it. I am sorry personally I will not be able to help.”
