DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.–A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to one to two years in state prison after he admitted he defrauded 10 people in Dauphin County during a home-repair scam, according to prosecutors.

A judge also ordered Terry L. Harner to three years of supervised probation following his prison sentence.

Harner, of Carlisle, plead guilty Thursday to 10 separate charges of theft by deception and deceptive business practices. Prosecutors said Harner defrauded people across Dauphin County, including homeowners living in Harrisburg, Susquehanna Township, Royalton, Hummelstown, Hershey and Halifax. One of Harner’s victims was a Lower Paxton Township police officer.

Prosecutors said Harner would respond to a homeowner’s request for home repairs and then ask for a check to order parts. The homeowner would never hear from Harner again.

Investigators credit the Crime Stoppers program with helping to catch Harner.

He also faces similar charges in Cumberland County.
